Self Leveling Cement

Renovating a home or a property before selling often involves changing the coverings of the floor. Installing laminate, tile, or vinyl rather than using a carpet on a concrete slab is one of the most popular options these days. Carpet only hides the hills and valleys of concrete slab. However, tile or vinyl can emphasise them, making them stand out. At the same time, laminate floors may split or crack if the floor is not level. The solution to this problem is the use of a self-leveling compound use on concrete. The liquid can find its own level and can be smoothened at the edges.

Self leveling cement is often used for a concrete job or to level a floor. There is no need for vibration or troweling in this case as it is very easy and quick. All you need to do is to pour it out and let it dry. This is good for leveler for 1 inch and up, for both interior and exterior. Our self-leveling cement comes with a smooth finish and a 1-year warranty.

How to use self-leveling cement.

Step 1:

Sweep the floor thoroughly, vacuuming it before starting. Search for the low spots by using a straightedge on the floor. Move it around. Low spots will appear as gaps below the straightedge.

Step 2:

Mix the compound for the concrete leveling. First, add water to the bucket, and then add the self-leveling mix. Combine it together with the use of a paddle mixer with a variable speed and half-inch drill until it becomes milkshake smooth in consistency. Add in the remaining water and transfer right away to the application area.

Step 3:

Pour the compound on the low spot. Level it using a straightedge with a back and forth motion. Push the mixture toward the straightedge using a trowel while moving across the spot. Use a trowel on the edges using a float trowel as the mixture starts to set.

Step 4:

Clean all tools and buckets, particularly the straightedge after each area since the self-leveling mixture starts to set in about 20 minutes and becomes hard after 30 minutes. A smooth straightedge and clean buckets are important as you continue with the other areas.

Step 5:

Use a four-inch floor scraper in order to smooth out the areas after the mixture has turned hard, before curing.

Tips

  • Keep in mind that your goal here is not a perfect level floor, but one that is flat enough for you to install your material on. This will result to flat flooring, which also feels flat as you walk on it.

Warnings

  • Self-leveling floor mixture sets fast in just 20 minutes as long as the right amount of water is added. Be careful not to mix more than needed in 10 minutes. Give yourself enough time to trowel and screed the spot that you are pouring it on.
  • Use a dust mask and safety goggles for this job. They are very important safety equipment.
