Decoustique was founded in 2016 by Kaelyn Tan who has a passion for architectural acoustics when she realised how sound environments can affect us on personal, emotional and psychological levels. The loud chattering in a noisy restaurant can affect how we perceive food; the heavy footsteps and door banging from neighbours can affect our sleep quality; and a lecture hall that is too reverberant can affect how we absorb information.
Decoustique was started to help improve sound environments in all kinds of spaces to ensure better life and well-being. We believe that architectural acoustics does not merely apply to music studios, cinemas and auditoria. It also applies to common places such as restaurants, classrooms, meeting rooms, places of worship and many more. So that, speech can be heard clearly, music is able to be expressed in its beautiful form and people are able to enjoy a better environment for living, studying, working and worshipping.
We appreciate how interior design has changed over time and we realise that some conventional acoustic panels might not complement certain interior design styles. Hence, Decoustique strives to help designers to integrate the acoustical elements into all kinds of building spaces by advising on the interior finishes for walls, ceiling and floor with engineered approach whilst maintaining the designers aesthetic aspirations.
